Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will be fondly remembered for her lifelong dedication to advancing the rights and well-being of women and children in Ghana.

Many were motivated to work towards equality and universal empowerment by her inspiring leadership and dedication to social progress, which had a significant impact on the development of the country.

In her capacity as the founder and president of the 31 December Women’s Movement, Nana Konadu promoted income-generating initiatives, literacy, and vocational training that empowered millions of women nationwide.

Under her direction, hundreds of preschools and child development centres were established, giving innumerable Ghanaian children access to early education and care.

Her loss is deeply felt by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

We send our deepest sympathies to her family, children, and everyone else impacted by her remarkable life and efforts.

Her impact went beyond the boundaries of Ghana. She was a strong advocate for gender equality and women’s participation in national development at the Beijing Conference on Women in 1995.

Additionally, she was instrumental in Ghana’s early 1991 ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a move that still serves as a framework for the Ministry’s work today.

The Ministry honours her lasting legacy as a visionary, brave, and caring leader whose commitment set the groundwork for advancements in social protection, women’s empowerment, and children’s care in Ghana.
