The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has closed 44 food manufacturing facilities, including sachet water producers and cold stores, as part of a nationwide enforcement campaign to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
The most recent inspections, which were conducted on Wednesday, July 22, in the Ga East and Ga West Municipalities, resulted in the closure of a number of unlicensed facilities that were discovered to be operating in unsanitary conditions.
Additionally, the Authority found that certain operators were producing food items without the necessary regulatory authorisation.
Following the exercise, Mrs. Rhoda Ewurabena Appiah, the FDA’s Head of Communications, told the media that the Authority would keep enforcing food safety regulations to protect the public’s health and guarantee that only companies with licenses operate in the nation.
“Several facilities have been closed down,” she stated, emphasising that the FDA is still dedicated to safeguarding consumers by taking decisive action against operators who violate the law.
Virgen Natural Mineral Water, a sachet water production factory in Ashongman, Ga East Municipality, was shut down by the Authority as part of the exercise after it was discovered to be operating without the necessary licence.
The FDA warned all food producers to adhere to regulations or face penalties, such as facility closure.
