Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has reassured stakeholders that the government is committed to finding a quick solution to the continuing dispute between Asanko Gold Ghana Limited and the local residents.

Following recent tensions that had led to the damage of the company’s property and equipment as well as a fatality on September 9th, the Minister made this commitment during a working visit to the company’s site on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Following a clash between military forces and local community members over the firm’s concession that resulted in the destruction of corporate property believed to be worth over US$33 million and the untimely death of a local resident, the Minister’s visit and remarks follow.

Residents had complained that they had encroached on the company’s concession because they were frustrated by unfulfilled development aspirations.

Hon. Buah stressed the importance of peaceful cohabitation in his remarks to the Asanko Gold leadership.

He said that in order to resolve the fundamental issues, mend the division between the business and the community, and guarantee a long-term solution, the government would take all necessary steps.

“As a government, we are committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and ensuring that such a tragedy is not repeated. Dialogue and mutual understanding must prevail,”  he stated.

The Minister briefly saw the mining activities of Asanko Gold as part of the tour.

He advised the management of the company to prioritize community development and involvement as essential components of their operations and to closely follow the established mining regulations.

In an effort to show the government’s dedication, Hon. Buah, the local assembly member, also paid a visit to the deceased’s family.

He offered the community and the dead family his condolences and promised a full and open investigation.

Alongside the Minister were representatives from the Minerals Commission, the Ministry, and the Comsdep Secretariat.
