The Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticized President Akufo-Addo for the remark he made when touring some towns that were impacted by the flood brought on by the spilling of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, urged Akufo-Addo to unconditionally apologize to the flood victims caused by the leakage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.

The Minority Leader claims that the Minority Caucus in Parliament is extremely dissatisfied by the President Akufo-Addo’s comments made in such a dire circumstance.

“It shows the government doesn’t really care that much about the people of Volta Region. On behalf of the people of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress Minority in Parliament wants to apologise to the people of the Volta Region for the statement made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“We consider that statement very unfortunate, and this statement should not come from the father of the land in times like this. It surprises us, and we are really disappointed in the statement coming from H.E. the President. We call on him to also apologise to the people of Volta Region, in particular for what he said,” he said.

They called after Akufo-Addo said he had come to the area to offer any support they needed to live comfortably and safely as Ghanaians and that he had taken the oath of office as the President for the entire country during his address to the flood victims on Monday.

Even though they did not vote for him when he ran for president, Akufo-Addo claimed that he could not ignore the people in their hour of need because “when these things happen and government acts, politics does not come in at all.” Regardless of whether they cast a ballot for me or not, I took the oath of office in order to safeguard every Ghanaian person. Togbe, I want you to understand that the government is operating on behalf of all Ghanaians, together with your elders and the general populace, he remarked.

“I came here because Ghanaians are having difficulties and suffering and it is my responsibility to try and help, because if it is a question of who votes for me and who does not vote for me, I should not be here because you don’t vote for me, that is not my concern,” the President added.
