The government has reaffirmed its intention to officially begin the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme in today November 12, after postponing its initial deployment in July.

Concerns from poultry industry stakeholders led to the delay, as they sought further input and participation before the effort could begin.

Designed to lessen Ghana’s reliance on imported chicken, which costs the country more than $300 million per year, the scheme is being hailed as a game changer for local producers.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme has been positioned as a major initiative to increase food security, empower local producers, and lower the cost of importing poultry.

According to officials, the program would not only save foreign cash but also provide long-term employment, particularly for young people and women in rural areas.
