Ms. Shalimar Abbiusi, a former spokesperson for The New Force, has no criminal record in Ghana, according to the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to an October 2025 police clearance certificate that The Chronicle was able to obtain, Ms. Abbiusi has never been found guilty of a crime in Ghana.

After a comprehensive background investigation, the Criminal Data Services Bureau (CDSB) of the CID provided the certificate, which is valid for six months and attests to the fact that her name “does not appear in the criminal records of the Ghana Police Service.”

Nearly two years have passed since Ms. Abbiusi was detained in December 2023 on suspicion of making false statements about her immigration status, sparking a widely reported scandal.

She was detained again and deported on December 19, 2023, even though the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) eventually dropped the complaint. The ECOWAS Court later declared this action to be illegal.

After much public discussion, conjecture on social media, and political opinion regarding Ms. Abbiusi’s incarceration and deportation, the CID’s confirmation offers official clarification.

Currently, Ms. Shalimar Abbiusi is a member of the African Unions (AU) Economic, Social, and Cultural Council’s (ECOSOCC) Advisory Board.

She was appointed after winning at the ECOWAS Court.
