The Presidential Advisor on Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Initiative, Goosie Tanoh, has revealed that Northshore Apparel is expected to create approximately 10,000 direct jobs when its factory in Savelugu reaches full production capacity.
Speaking at the official opening of the Northshore Apparel Hub in Savelugu on Friday, August 28, 2026, Goosie Tanoh said the large-scale manufacturing project is expected to become an important source of employment and economic opportunities for people in northern Ghana.
Northshore Apparel to Employ 10,000 Workers
According to Goosie Tanoh, Northshore Apparel’s employment strategy will include persons with disabilities, promoting greater inclusion within Ghana’s manufacturing sector.
He commended the company for creating opportunities for differently abled persons, describing the initiative as a positive example that other businesses and employers across Ghana could emulate.
“At full capacity, North Shore Apparel expects to employ about 10,000 people directly. Among them will be persons with disabilities,” he said.
He added that the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workforce was “eminently commendable” and could serve as an example for corporate Ghana.
Factory to Provide Social Facilities for Workers
Beyond creating employment opportunities, Northshore Apparel has incorporated social amenities into its industrial project to improve the welfare of employees and their families.
The facilities include a clinic and a creche, which are expected to provide essential support to workers, particularly employees with young children.
The inclusion of these facilities highlights the company’s broader approach to employee welfare, workplace support and inclusive economic development.
Northshore Apparel Plans Three-Shift Production
Goosie Tanoh also disclosed that Northshore Apparel is preparing to transition from a two-shift production system to a three-shift operation.
According to him, the move will provide a practical demonstration of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy agenda, which seeks to encourage increased production, business activity and job creation.
A three-shift manufacturing system could allow the factory to operate for longer hours, increase production capacity and create additional opportunities for workers and businesses connected to the apparel industry.
Manufacturing Growth in Northern Ghana
The establishment of Northshore Apparel in Savelugu also represents a potential shift in Ghana’s traditional industrial development pattern, which has historically seen a significant concentration of economic and manufacturing activity in the southern part of the country.
Goosie Tanoh said the project demonstrates that export-oriented manufacturing can succeed in northern Ghana, creating productive employment opportunities for young people without requiring them to leave their communities in search of work.
