The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made the decision to extend the deadline for submitting proxy applications for its next primaries on November 4, 2023.
This announcement was issued by William Yamoah, the NPP’s secretary for the presidential elections committee, in response to queries from potential candidates.
All interested parties will have plenty of time to complete the application criteria because the revised deadline for filing proxy applications is Monday, October 23, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
The party initially set a deadline of October 13, 2023 for filing proxy applications for the flagbearer election slated for November 4, 2023.
Mr. Yamoah also explained how to submit a proxy application, emphasizing that those who do so must show documentation of their absence from or incapacity to attend the voting location in person.
They must contain supporting materials, including an affidavit or statement from an oath commissioner.
The Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee can be reached by email at [email protected] or via WhatsApp at +233 540466684. Proxy applications can also be filed in person at the NPP Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
It was also made clear that the proxy list would be made accessible to the public for verification and that any alleged fake declarations could be contested and sent to the proper national authority for additional inquiry.
Importantly, the opportunity to vote via proxy shall be available only to Delegates entitled to vote in the Main Congress on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
