The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has announced that it has disciplined its security officers who were seen on camera engaging in an altercation with Ghana Immigration Service agents.
This is stated in a news release that was signed by Abena Serwah Opoku Fosu, the manager of marketing and public affairs, and dated May 15, 2024.
A section of the press release stated, “GPHA takes full responsibility for the actions of our security personnel involved, who have since been reprimanded.”
Story
On Monday, May 13, 2024, a confrontation broke out between immigration agents and GPHA security personnel on board the MV MSC DYMPHNA. The altercation progressed to the Immigration Office located in the Authority Building at Terminal 3.
The International Ships and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code and procedures, which create Standard Operating Procedures, were broken by the immigration officers when they neglected to declare a package they had received from the ship. This led to the incident.
The altercation resulted from GPHA security officials’ insistence on following security protocols.
