Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s family has declared that he will return to Ghana to assist with a corruption inquiry after a planned surgery on June 13.

With Ofori-Atta on an INTERPOL Red Notice—a worldwide notice for provisional arrest pending extradition—the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is actively investigating the case.

However, his family has strongly opposed the action, calling it a “premeditated vendetta” and an overreach by the OSP.

They claimed that medical documents were suppressed in order to support the Red Notice, and they accused them of due process abuses in a statement.

The family added that they had officially petitioned Ghana’s National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of Files (CCF), which oversees INTERPOL, to cancel the warning.

The statement stated that they expect Mr. Ofori-Atta to be fully exonerated and that “once Mr. Ofori-Atta’s surgery and necessary recovery are complete, he will return to Ghana and engage the OSP directly.”

Ofori-Atta’s supporters have framed the investigation as politically motivated, drawing attention to the OSP’s investigative techniques.

The upcoming weeks, according to legal experts, will be crucial in deciding whether the issue continues as a legal matter or develops into a more extensive political debate, especially INTERPOL’s reaction to the petition and Ofori-Atta’s recovery from surgery.
