The Accra Regional Police Command has formally asked Democracy Hub, Patriotic Hub, and Patriotic Forum Group, the organizers of two scheduled demonstrations, to reschedule their intended protest at the Jubilee House from December 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, and December 1, 2023, to January 5, 2024.

Citing the Jubilee House’s status as a security installation, the police expressed worries about the potential security implications of protesting surrounding it.

A letter from the Regional Commander states that the demonstration and picketing surrounding the Jubilee House may endanger public defense, public order, and public safety, among other important concerns, according to the security assessment carried out by the Command.

The Accra Regional Police Command emphasized that they were unable to offer sufficient security and protection for the planned demonstration during the Christmas and New Year’s festivities due to operational and security restrictions.

“Therefore, the Command requests that the special event be postponed to any date after January 5, 2024, among other reasons, in the interest of public defense, public order, and public safety.”

The message read, “If you are inclined to hold the protest, the Command further requests you to relocate the destination for the intended demonstration/picketing, strictly in accordance with the Public Order Act.”
