Several important organizations within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration have been visited by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The Committee went to the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), the Passport Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Assessing operational difficulties and comprehending the existing situation within these agencies were the goals of the visit.

Ambassador Ramses J. Cleland, the Chief Director, emphasized the changing geopolitical scene and its implications for national interest during a briefing session at the ministry.

Along with highlighting the necessity of strengthening Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities and developing anticipatory threat models, he also pointed out weaknesses in border security.

In order to increase efficiency, Mr. Felix Nyarku, Director of the Accra Passport Office, described the passport application procedure and announced the introduction of a 24-hour service.

He did, however, voice worries with discrepancies in applicants’ identification documents, pointing out that processing is frequently delayed when names on Ghana Cards and birth certificates don’t match.

The committee received an update on the several issues the Accra International Conference Centre is facing and was asked for help.

Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, the Committee’s chairman, praised the agencies for their commitment and openness.

“We are grateful for the concerns you have shared and thankful for the opportunity to engage with you” he stated.

He conveyed gratitude for the endeavors being undertaken to portray Ghana as a prominent country on the African continent.
