Ernest Yaw Anim, a newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kumawu seat, has been sworn in by the legislature.

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, when Parliament was returning from recess, Mr. Anim was sworn in. Mr. Anim, who has assumed his function in parliament as a new MP, was given the oath of office and the pledge of allegiance by Speaker of the House.

The Kumawu by-election was held on May 23, 2023, and Yaw Anim, running on behalf of the ruling New Patriotic Party, won. In his remarks welcoming the new member, Minority Leader Dr. Casiel Ato Forson asked him to model himself after the good qualities of the late MP, the Hon. Philip Basoah, who was close to everyone regardless of political affiliation.

He claimed that Basoah demonstrated competency in the performance of his duties and expressed the hope that Hon Yaw Enim will follow in his footsteps. In order to effectively represent the Kumawu people, he pushed the new MP to get settled in right once and start working on his assigned duties.

In his remarks, majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu complimented the Kumawu by-election’s behavior as being extremely free, fair, and violent-free. He expressed hope that a similar climate of peace will prevail during the upcoming by-election in the Assin North constituency.

The majority leader urged the new member to familiarize themselves with the Constitution and the Standing Orders, which are resources that aid lawmakers in carrying out their responsibilities.

Ernest Yaw Anim trounced his rivals, Kwasi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress and two independent candidates, both called Kwaku Duah, in the Kumawu by-election, receiving an amazing 15,264 votes.
