Eight individuals were apprehended by the Berekum Divisional Police in the Amomaso Forest region close to the Berekum Municipality in the Bono Region as part of their action against illegal mining activities.
Following a distress call on people involved in illegal mining, the arrests took place on May 20, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM. The Berekum District Patrol squad discovered locals who had captured the accused when they arrived.
A pickaxe, four shovels, a water pumping equipment, and a woollen carpet that was allegedly used to wash gold were among the goods that authorities confiscated from the accused.
The seized things were kept as evidence, the suspects were turned over to the police, and they were held for additional investigation.

Atule Nathaniel, 23; Azusiwine Cletus, 22; Ayaama Thomas, 15; Asigiya Joseph, 23; Aboyinga Aselise, 37; Atanbire Reymond, 20; Isaac Ntim, 46; and Aguya Isaac, 25 are among those detained.
The suspects are presently being prepared for prosecution by the authorities. The community’s diligent collaboration has been commended by the Bono Regional Police Command, which also urges ongoing reporting of illicit mining operations.
