Elyasu Kunateh, 42, was found guilty and sentenced by the Upper West Regional Police Command through the Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of defiling a seven-year-old kid in Wa.
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the police detained the now-convicted person after the victim’s mother reported the Saturday, January 17, 2026, event.

His Lordship Justice Osci-Wusu Antwi found him guilty of the crime and sentenced him to ten (10) years in hard labour on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following a full trial at the Wa High Court.
The public is reassured by the Upper West Regional Police Command that it is still dedicated to protecting those who are vulnerable and will keep looking into all reported occurrences of sexual and gender-based violence as well as child abuse.
The Command also urges parents, guardians, carers, and the general public to be watchful and to report suspected abuse incidents as soon as possible to the closest police station so that prompt action can be taken.
