In preparation for the official launch of the Free Sanitary Pad Initiative on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools in Accra, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) held a joint press conference today, Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Ministry of Education’s conference room.

The purpose of the press conference was to inform the public and media outlets of President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to guarantee teenage girls in schools nationwide have free access to sanitary pads.

The campaign aims to promote menstruation health and hygiene among adolescent girls, according to Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, in her brief remarks.

She underlined that it is anticipated that this intervention will boost academic performance, retention, and absenteeism significantly.

The minister added that the program is anticipated to assist almost two million girls enrolled in junior and senior high schools.

For this reason, she urged the media to help spread the word about the launch and the initiative’s wider advantages.
