The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has called on women in leadership positions to empower younger women and girls by creating opportunities for them to succeed and take up leadership roles in Ghana.
Dr. Apaak made the appeal at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Women’s Awards ceremony, where he represented the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
Addressing participants at the event, the Deputy Education Minister congratulated the award recipients for their remarkable achievements and valuable contributions to national development across various sectors.
He emphasised that effective leadership goes beyond occupying influential positions, explaining that genuine leadership is demonstrated through dedicated service, commitment, positive influence and meaningful contributions to society.

Dr Clement Apaak Calls for Greater Support for Women in Leadership
Dr. Apaak encouraged the award-winning women to use their achievements and professional experiences to inspire the next generation of female leaders.
He stressed the importance of creating pathways for young women and girls to develop their talents, build confidence and pursue leadership opportunities in education, business, public service and other professional fields.
According to him, women who have broken barriers and achieved success have an important role to play in mentoring younger generations and demonstrating that girls can excel in any field they choose.
The Deputy Minister’s message highlighted the need for stronger support systems, mentorship programmes and equal opportunities to promote women’s empowerment and female participation in leadership across Ghana.
GAAS Women’s Awards Celebrate Outstanding Female Achievements
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Women’s Awards was held under the theme, “Breaking Barriers and Building Nations: Celebrating Women in Outstanding Leadership in Ghana.”
The ceremony recognised women whose achievements and contributions have made a significant impact across different sectors of society.
The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of gender equality, women’s leadership and the role of successful women in advancing Ghana’s social and economic development.
By celebrating outstanding female achievers, the awards seek to encourage more women to pursue their ambitions, overcome barriers and contribute meaningfully to national progress.

Women’s Empowerment Key to Ghana’s National Development
Dr. Apaak’s call reinforces the importance of investing in young women and girls through mentorship, quality education, leadership development and access to opportunities.
Promoting women in leadership can help strengthen institutions, encourage innovation and ensure that more women participate in decisions affecting communities and the country as a whole.
His message also underscores the need for established female leaders to support emerging talents and help build a future in which young girls can confidently pursue leadership positions.
As Ghana continues to promote inclusive development, empowering women and girls remains an important step towards building a more equitable society and unlocking the potential of future generations.
