The Ministry of Health would like to notify the public that various African nations have recently reported instances of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Recent reports of confirmed and suspected cases have been made in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to updates from the Africa CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO).

There are currently no confirmed or suspected cases in Ghana.

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with international health partners, has implemented preventive steps nationally to improve the country’s preparedness and response systems.

Current measures under implementation include:

– Enhanced surveillance and screening at airports, seaports, and land borders. – Increased monitoring of travellers arriving from affected countries.

– Training and equipping health workers to identify, isolate and manage suspected cases safely.

– Activation of public health emergency coordination and rapid response systems.

– Intensified public education, risk communication, and community awareness activities.

The serious viral disease known as Ebola is contracted by direct contact with the body fluids of infected individuals or contaminated objects and surfaces. Fever, weakness, headaches, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in extreme situations, bleeding are possible symptoms.

The public is advised by the Ministry of Health to maintain composure and take the following precautions:

– Wash hands regularly with soap under running water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

– Avoid direct contact with bodily fluids of sick persons.

– Avoid handling dead bodies without appropriate protection.

– Avoid handling or eating sick or dead wild animals and ensure that all meat is properly handled and thoroughly cooked before consumption.

– Report suspected symptoms immediately to the nearest health facility.

The public is urged to refrain from disseminating false information and to depend solely on official updates from the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health.

The Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health are still dedicated to safeguarding everyone’s health and safety in Ghana, and they will keep a careful eye on the situation.
