Acts 1: 14 reads “They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers”.

Prayer is a conversation between man and God, the almighty and the one who controls everything we seek.

We cannot successfully look for, and achieve anything without talking to the one who actually controls EVERYTHING. Prayer is so important that it must remain unceasing. It is the lifeline of all who desire fellowship with God; even those who hope to overcome the devices of the enemy, and those who yearn for eternal life.

The more we pray, the less we worry. It is totally unhealthy to make prayer the seasonal intervention to troubling situations; and the ritual we perform against evil spirits when we are afraid. Christ often arose to a solitary place to pray while it was still dawn. He prayed about everything before doing anything. He even taught that man ought to pray and not faint. He also advised that we watch and pray, lest we fall into temptation. The Apostles also joined forces in constant prayer. This was even before the Holy Spirit descended on them on the day of Pentecost. Like their Master Jesus, they prayed about everything before doing anything. We remember how they prayed before choosing Matthias to replace Judas as the twelfth apostle.

But today, we seem to be on our own, trusting in our connections, networks, resources, education, fame, and our own strength and abilities. So, we set out to do anything without first talking to the one who controls EVERYTHING. We fight those who hate and plot against us without talking to the one who controls our haters; we battle diseases and health conditions with our cash without first talking to the one who heals; we struggle and work hard for cash without first talking to the one who determines prosperity; and generally, it is worth repeating that, we do things without talking to the one who control things.

We must pray ourselves everyday rather than contracting others to do so for us. Prayer is not the “preoccupation” of a few unemployed young men and women whom we can even pay to fast and pray on our behalf. We must not call prayer contractors after every bad dream and accept whatever interpretations and directives they give. We must know God for ourselves and have a relationship with Him through prayer.

The early Christians and apostles simply loved God and connected with Him through prayer and the study of the Holy Scriptures. They did not follow after signs and wonders; those two rather followed them. Let us pray everyday and more, as a way of deepening our relationship with the one who controls everything we want; and also as a solution to the numerous sources of worry that surrounds us as humans living in an imperfect world environment of so many challenges.

God help and bless us all.
