In Psalm 27:10, David said “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.
One day, Samuel went to Bethlehem to anoint one of Jesse’s sons to be the next King of Israel. In thinking about who that person could be, David was left out, even though he was also a child of Jesse.
His father didn’t think of him as qualified to be the next King. He simply had no approval from his own father and was abandoned and confined to the field to watch over flock as shepherd.
It must be emphasized that for some reasons, Jesse saw his own son David as inferior to his other elderly sons. He didn’t see a King in David. But, because God had already approved of David as the next King, his abandonment by his own father didn’t matter. Samuel rejected all the children of Jesse until David was brought to him from the field and was anointed as future King.
See, people, including those very close to you, may leave you out when it comes to considering who is best fit to occupy a higher position. But God won’t leave you out of the equation if He approves of you. It is not about who is more aged, competent, knowledgeable, rich, or connected. It’s about who God approves. If David had depended on his father and family for approval, He would never have qualified as King and taken the throne. You may also feel unapproved by the people around you.
Sometimes, even those you may have helped in life, may still not give you approval, for whatever reason. Even though this may be worrying, I am here to announce to you that, God’s approval surpasses all forms of human approvals. So, do not spend sleepless nights wondering or thinking about what you can do to be liked and to receive approval from anyone. Don’t do that, else you will be frustrated the more. Like David was doing as a shepherd in the fields, just mind your own business, by doing the little that has been entrusted to your care diligently.
Remember, David was not seeking the approval of his father. He was just doing his work even outside home. Do not work deliberately to please anyone. It is an unnecessary stress. Trust, obey and just be deligent and hardworking about the little or disrespected or supposedly unimportant task that may have been entrusted in your care, and allow God to approve you. With such divine approval, you may not be listed or counted as part of the contenders for any higher position by men and even those close to you. But eventually, you will receive the nod.
Rather than scheming for human approval and appointments, let us count on God’s approval first, and all other things will fall in their places.
God bless us.
