Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC), has been cleared and released by the Court of Appeal.
Her previous conviction and 10-year prison sentence are overturned by the decision. On Thursday, July 30, 2026, it was delivered.
The prosecution failed to establish its case against her beyond a reasonable doubt, the court ruled. This overturned the High Court’s conviction against her.
Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu filed an appeal challenging her conviction as well as the manner in which she was tried and sentenced while not present.
Her lawyers contended that the prosecution had not proven the offences beyond a reasonable doubt and that the allegations against her were flawed.
On June 9, she returned to Ghana after being extradited from the United States. On June 24, she started her term at Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison.
With permission from the High Court, she visited the United States in 2021 to receive medical care while her trial was still proceeding, but she never came back.
Her alleged theft and diversion of state resources during her tenure as MASLOC CEO led to an Accra High Court finding her guilty in 2024 of several charges, including causing financial damage to the state and stealing.
That ruling has since been reversed by the Court of Appeal.
