Senyo Hosi, the convenor of the One Ghana Movement, has cautioned Parliament that any attempt to demolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) will not be accepted by the public.

He insisted that the values that guided the creation of the OSP are still essential to the country’s democratic framework and shouldn’t be dropped just because the people in power aren’t performing up to par.

“Parliament should hear this loud and clear: we will not allow any politician to vary that policy intended by the OSP. Those who want to even ride on Martin Kpebu to do it should forget it. Martin Kpebu is not against the policy intent of the OSP,” he stated.

On Saturday, December 6, he stated on Channel One TV, “We should be able to separate the effectiveness of the person who is there from the policy value of the office. If you tell me you want to scrap the OSP today, what are you going to replace it with?”

His comments follow Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga’s call on December 4th for the dissolution of the OSP and the return of its investigative and prosecutorial duties to the Attorney-General.

Mr. Ayariga questioned why the OSP “has not delivered the anticipated outcomes” while having significant support, while the Attorney-General’s Office had not been well prepared.

In a related event, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has been accused by private lawyer Martin Kpebu, who has petitioned President John Mahama to remove him.
