Seven military officials, including senior personnel and a driver, have been placed under remand in Military Police custody by the Suame District Court in connection with the alleged attack and killing of two young civilians in Kumasi.
On March 28, 2025, the victims, Kwame Adu (also called Ogee) and Kwabena Sarfo, were taken into custody together with Christian Obiri Yeboah (also called Kofi Yesu) on suspicion of stealing a civilian’s iPhone.
After being brought to the barracks of the 4th Infantry Battalion, the three young men reportedly suffered brutal beatings.
The third victim, Obiri Yeboah, was discovered alive and undergoing medical attention, while the other two were later discovered dead in a bush in the Kumasi neighborhood of Danyame.
The victims were beaten at the barracks before being disposed of, the police prosecution claims.
The seven military officers appeared before the Suame District Court on Tuesday and were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The accused’s attorneys pushed for Military Police custody, but prosecutors wanted to place them in prison while investigations were ongoing.
The latter request was granted by the presiding judge, who remanded them until the following hearing on April 22, 2025.
In court, the deceased’s relatives reaffirmed their demands for justice and responsibility.
The family identified the bodies of Adu and Sarfo at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue after reporting them missing.
