A 37-year-old man named Nana Anderson has been taken into custody by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command in relation to a large-scale car theft and rental fraud syndicate that operates in several places across the country.

Anderson, who is currently unemployed, was captured on April 5 in a hideout in Atasemanso, a neighborhood of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, according to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service.

Wilson Kojo Bismark, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Nana Abeka are among the aliases the suspect is said to have used.

Gideon Baah, another person connected to the murder, is presently at large, the police further said.

According to preliminary investigations, on March 25, Anderson allegedly got in touch with the complainant’s automobile rental partner and booked a Hyundai Elantra with registration number GT 114-25 illegally.

To trick the rental agent into giving up the automobile at Community 25, the defendant used fake ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards with his own photo but different names, according to the police.

Suspicions were raised after he allegedly disabled the car’s tracking system and neglected to return it.

According to the authorities, additional inquiries revealed Anderson’s connection to a larger criminal organization that stole many cars between January and March 2025.

The statement said that inside the Greater Accra Region, the syndicate used comparable fraudulent techniques to steal a Kia Forte at Haatso, a Honda Civic at Amasaman, and a Kia Ultima at Spintex.

Anderson acknowledged earning GH¢4,000 for each of the stolen cars, according to the police.

After being taken into custody, the suspect allegedly guided police to a Millennium City home thought to be the hiding place of Gideon Baah, popularly known as Nana.

Baah was not present at the site, though.

Anderson has now been arraigned before the court, according to the police, and the matter is still being investigated.

They reassured the public that measures are being taken to capture Gideon Baah and bring the entire syndicate to justice.
