Prof. Christopher Ekumfi Ameyaw, the former board chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), was arrested with permission, according to Attorney General and Justice Minister Dr. Dominic Ayine.

As part of an ongoing investigation into financial transactions during his time as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Prof. Ameyaw was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) early on Sunday, March 2, 2025. But later in the evening, he was set free.

Dr. Ayine disclosed in an interview with GhanaWeb TV that the previous chairman was questioned about payments made while he was in charge.

He further said that Prof. Ameyaw acknowledged that “two million dollars” had been paid for some work, but that no work had been completed.

“We are still investigating the circumstances of the payment and those who were involved,” the Attorney-General stated.

Following the arrest, Prof. Christopher Ekumfi Ameyaw’s attorneys have vigorously defended their client, claiming his innocence.

“We the lawyers absolutely are confident that Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi is innocent of whatever they raised against him,” Kenneth Korankye, one of Prof. Ameyaw’s lawyers, said.

“Let them bring all the facts that they have, once they bring all the facts we shall answer them as counsels of Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi,” The lawyer added.

“I believe that our client is absolutely innocent of any charges, that’s what I can say, let them do their homework, let them do it well and then when they come we shall also have our side of the story,” he added.
