The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) bylaws have been amended to allow for three terms as president instead of the previous two.
With the immediate implementation of the constitutional amendment, future GFA presidents will be qualified to hold office for a maximum of three four-year terms.
The Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram hosted the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, where the decision was made.
The motion was unanimously supported by the 114 members who voted in favor of the change out of the 124 members in attendance.
The promotion of the Women’s Football Representative to the position of Second Vice-President on the GFA Executive Council, which aims to increase gender representation at the highest level of football governance in the nation, was one of the two main items on the agenda, along with the amendment.
Representatives from the Premier League, Division One League, Women’s Premier League, provincial football associations, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, and other constituent groups were among the important football stakeholders that attended Tuesday’s Congress.
The overwhelming endorsement shows that there is widespread support among Ghanaian football fans for ongoing structural changes that would ensure competitive excellence, stability, and inclusivity in the long run.
