Hearts of Oak’s Executive Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV, has voiced his displeasure with the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) decision to halt football games at the Accra Sports Stadium in December in order to accommodate concerts.
Due to this change, teams like Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Great Olympics had to vacate the Accra Sports Stadium for a while. Togbe Afede expressed his displeasure with the decision and questioned its justification.
“Someone wakes up and abruptly closes a sports stadium for a concert,” he asked. What sort of logic is this? Is the money raised for stadium maintenance going toward sports or additional concerts? What makes sense in this situation?
Still, we take a seat and don’t grumble. Why do we fear the truth so much? For me, it’s disgusting and embarrassing that a stadium can be shuttered during the Ghana Premier League season to accommodate a concert.”
Due to the shutdown, Accra Lions now play their home games at WAFA Park in Sogakope, while Hearts and Olympics now play at Baba Yara Stadium.
When Hearts of Oak hosts Bechem United in the matchday 17 games, they will be hoping to go back to winning ways.
