Mr. Paul Adjei, the administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), has advocated for funding diversification for the nation’s educational infrastructure development.

“We must begin to find innovative and diversified funding sources to address Ghana’s school infrastructure needs across all educational levels.” he said, emphasizing that relying only on the fund for such development was not sustainable.

Speaking at the three-day National Education Forum that concluded over the weekend in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, Mr. Adjei clarified that the fund was suffering from an over dependence on GETFund as the main source of funds for building educational facilities at all levels.

“The time has come for stakeholders to explore alternative financing models, including private sector investments, community-driven initiatives, diaspora contributions, endowment funds, and philanthropic foundations,” he added, emphasizing that this might ultimately result in the fund’s collapse.

During one of the forum’s five breakout sessions, Mr. Adjei also presented a paper on “Government and Stakeholder Partnerships in School Infrastructure Development in Ghana.”

He claimed that these materials might speed up project completion and drastically save costs.

The significance of encouraging community ownership and participation in school facility management and upkeep was also emphasized during the conversation.

In order to allow for partial use of facilities prior to full completion, participants also favored a phased approach to large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly at the tertiary level.

“Transforming education for a sustainable future” was the theme of the forum.

Teachers, academic specialists, and President John Dramani Mahama were there.

All Ghanaians were urged by the forum to actively engage in creating a thorough plan for the advancement of education.
