The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s renal section has unpaid debt, and the government has taken action to resolve it.
The payment of GHS4 million to settle the debt has been approved by the government.
In addition to having serious repercussions for patients, the renal unit’s outpatient department closure since May has resulted in more hassles for people who depend on dialysis services.
Numerous patients were compelled to seek care at other facilities, which resulted in increased expenses.
On Thursday, November 9, 2023, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu reported to Parliament that the Ministry of Health had worked with the Ministry of Finance to obtain approval for GHS4 million to pay off the renal unit’s outstanding debt.
The Health Minister said, “The good news is that the Minister of Finance has just approved the disbursement of this GH¢4 million to support our patients in Korle-Bu. The Ministry of Health has since requested the Ministry of Finance to settle the total indebtedness of GH¢4 million.”
