In the next days, the government will begin recruiting 7,000 teachers around the country to enhance Ghana’s education sector and fill personnel vacancies, particularly in underprivileged communities.

Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, made the announcement during a media briefing on Wednesday, April 1, in which he highlighted major facts of the exercise.

According to the Minister, the recruiting portal would be formally open to eligible applicants on April 10, 2026.

“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has received clearance and approval from the Ministry of Finance for the recruitment of teachers across the country. We will be recruiting at least 7,000 teachers. We want the process to be open, transparent, and competitive,” he explained.

He went on to say, “Graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts may apply for placement as teachers nationwide. Priority will be given to those willing to serve in deprived and underserved areas.”

The project is expected to provide employment possibilities for thousands of educated instructors while also increasing educator distribution around the country.

Concerns have developed in recent years about inequities in teacher deployment, with many rural and poor areas experiencing severe shortages, while trained teachers in urban areas struggle to find work.
