President John Dramani Mahama hosted Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa at a State Banquet honouring him during his three-day State Visit to Ghana.
At the banquet, President Mahama emphasised Ghana and Zimbabwe’s historic links, stating that their relationship “predates formal diplomacy” and was established through defining efforts for Africa led by visionaries such as Kwame Nkrumah and the late President Robert Mugabe.
The evening is “not merely ceremonial; it is a celebration of a relationship shaped by history, enriched by shared experiences, and sustained by genuine human connections,” he said, emphasising that the nations are still guided by their common values of freedom, dignity, and Pan-African unity.

“Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa, reflecting on Ghana’s historical contribution to the country’s independence. We will always be appreciative of Ghana.
He added that the State Visit highlights the long-standing connections between the two nations and that it offers chances for improved business-to-business interaction.
President Mnangagwa received gifts of fugu and kente as a token of gratitude, and he also gave President Mahama a bag made of crocodile skin and a special item, signifying the long-standing friendship and cultural links between Ghana and Zimbabwe.
The State Banquet celebrated a partnership rooted in history, trust, and common goals while reiterating the commitment of both countries to promote strategic collaboration, commerce, and sustainable development.
