The interior minister, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has disclosed that there are currently 338 conflict hotspots in Ghana, most of which are related to chieftaincy and land issues.

According to the minister, the intensity and complexity of conflicts documented in the northern regions make them a more volatile security danger, even if the southern portion of the country is home to a greater number of these hotspots.

Yesterday in Tamale, Mr. Mubarak revealed the information when paying a courtesy call to Mr. Ali Adolf John, the Northern Regional Minister, at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.

The Interior Ministry’s visit was a component of a national tour aimed at evaluating regional security dynamics and investigating strategies to improve peacebuilding and conflict prevention systems.

“Though the south records more cases, the north experiences more violent incidents, making the region a high-priority security concern,” he said.

He emphasized that in order to preserve stability and national cohesion, early conflict avoidance is crucial, particularly in districts that are at risk.

Mr. Mubarak issued a warning, citing the recent unrest in Zabzugu, that if aggressive measures were not implemented, unresolved tensions might turn into a larger conflict.

In order to achieve this, he declared his intention to improve early warning systems and community-based initiatives by providing the National Peace Council with more resources.

In order to increase the operational capability of security forces, he also disclosed that the government would send at least three armored vehicles to the Northern Region.

Mr. Ali Adolf John, the Northern Regional Minister, voiced concern about the ongoing land-related conflicts in the area, especially during the rainy season when fights over farmlands frequently become violent.

“Northern Ghana holds enormous economic potential, but lasting peace remains the cornerstone for investment and sustainable development,” he said.

In order to assist regional security agencies in effectively managing and responding to such disputes, he made a request to the ministry for enhanced logistical support.
