The National Peace Council in the Ashanti Region has asked Electoral Commission (EC) personnel who will be in charge of today’s by-election in Kumawu to carry out their duty impartially.

In order to avoid what occurred at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, this is being done.

The two leading political parties in the polls were also warned by the Ashanti Regional Peace Council to refrain from anything that would sabotage the elections.

The National Peace Council’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Rt. Rev. Nuh Ben Abubekr, gave the two major political parties the following advice: “We desire peace, no one enjoyed what happened at Ayawaso [West] Wuogon constituency during the by-election. We don’t want to say it again here.

“Parliament has also passed a law, and the two major political parties have met with police chief Dampare George Akuffo. We anticipate that they will abide by the law and stick to the plan that they themselves have established.

The personnel chosen by the EC to oversee the by-election should carry out their duties properly, impartially, and without straying from what they have been taught, he continued.
