Ghana’s dedication to creating a digitally inclusive economy has been underlined by Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

Minister George emphasized Ghana’s progress in mobile money interoperability, which has given more than 90% of the adult population access to mobile financial services, during his remarks at the African FinTech Summit in Accra.

Citing the continent’s early embrace of mobile money transfers like M-Pesa and MoMo, the Minister emphasized that Africa is an active pioneer in the global fintech transition rather than merely a passive follower.

He underlined the necessity of pan-African cooperation, especially in order to harmonize payment systems through the Africa Free Continental Trade Area (AfCFTA).

According to Minister George, inclusion, trust, and integration are the three key requirements for establishing the fintech scene in Africa.

For the AfCFTA to succeed and support African economy, he urged central bank governors to switch from the traditional Swift system to the Pan-African Payment System (PAPS).

The Minister reiterated that the government’s job is to be a “active enabler and a responsible custodian” rather than to impede development by passing excessive regulations.

The world should look to Ghana as a model of inclusive digital innovation, he said, and he praised the Africa Fintech Summit as a movement that recognizes African innovators.
