A delegation from Digital Realty met with Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, today to talk about the company’s growth in Ghana’s digital ecosystem and to look into possible strategic partnership opportunities.
The Minister presented Ghana’s ambitious national data infrastructure strategy during the conference, stating that by the end of 2025, legislation requiring all data centers to connect to a single national data repository is anticipated.
He emphasized the significance of this infrastructure in facilitating real-time analytics and decision-making by saying, “We are building a national repository that integrates data from both government and private entities.”
Hon. George praised Digital Realty’s debut in Ghana, emphasizing the crucial role that private sector involvement plays in hastening the construction of vital digital infrastructure.
“Banks, financial intelligence units—all will depend on this system. Without private sector involvement, progress would be much slower,” he stated.
Three major organizations will be in charge of monitoring data center operations nationwide under the new regulatory framework.
The Data Protection Commission will oversee data processing procedures, the Cyber Security Authority will keep an eye on security systems, and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) will take on a more robust supervision role.
“Today, we struggle to make critical data-driven decisions because various agencies operate in silo”s, but with proper integration and AI, we can unlock deeper insights,” he explained.
Digital Realty operates across 25 countries with over 300 data centers globally, with presence in Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa and other regional markets)
Digital Realty’s operations in Ghana are expected to significantly expand the country’s data center capacity, improving redundancy and reliability for critical digital services across both public and private sectors.
The Digital Realty delegation was led by Joseph Koranteng, the MD for Ghana who highlighted details of Digital Realty’s operations in Ghana and its impact on the Digital Ecosystem
