As part of larger steps to cut government spending, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate termination of fuel allocations and allowances for all political appointees.

Redirecting public funding to priority areas and ensuring that leadership shares in the sacrifices asked of citizens are the goals of the move.

This decision comes after other austerity measures, such as cutting back on the number of ministers and employees of the presidential office and ending government offices’ satellite TV subscriptions.

The Presidency emphasized that in order to reduce wasteful spending and encourage economic restraint, these actions are required.
