Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a government spokesperson, disclosed that claims that the Ministry of Roads has misused sole sourcing are false when taking into account the entire spectrum of contracts.

According to him, the ministry has given 930 contracts since the NDC took office, with sole sourced contracts making up only 9.46% of the total.

He continued by saying that concentrating solely on Big Push roads—which comprise single-sourced projects—gives an inadequate picture.

“If you limit yourself to just one thing that the Ministry does, it would be unfair in terms of the full analysis,” he said on TV3’s KeyPoints.

He pointed out that 90% of the 104 billion Ghana cedis in contracts signed by Kwame Nkrumah’s administration were single-sourced.

The current administration’s strategy, in contrast, accounts for a lower percentage of contracts that are solely sourced.

Additionally, he emphasised competitive bidding procedures. The ministry has carried out the President’s pledge to restrict sole sourcing, as seen by the public advertising of 405 trunk road maintenance projects and 388 feeder route projects for competitive bidding.
