The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Caucus’s recently elected Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has vowed to carry on the traditions of his predecessors while serving as head of the House.
Mr. Ayariga takes over from Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Emphasizing leadership continuity, Ayariga said, “I am guided by the illustrious precedents set by former distinguished leaders of our caucus, including our current Speaker, Rt Alban Bagbin, who led us twenty years ago, followed by Cletus Avoka, Benjamin Kunbuor, Haruna Iddrisu, and most recently, Cassiel Ato Forson.”
The NDC’s dedication to President John Dramani Mahama’s national agenda was reiterated by Ayariga, who said, “As Leader of the House and Leader of Government Business, I assure the people of Ghana that we will rigorously pursue the agenda to reset Ghana, consistent with the overwhelming mandate given to President Mahama and the 187 members of this caucus.”
“Although we constitute an overwhelming majority, we will strive for inclusivity and consensus-building, upholding the principles of probity and accountability in fulfilling the dreams of our founding fathers,” he added, pledging to take a collaborative approach to governing. We will foster national unity, advance democracy, and ensure equitable development.”
“The road ahead will not be without challenges, but I am confident that, together, through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, we can overcome any obstacles and deliver on our collective vision,” Ayariga said, expressing confidence despite noting possible problems ahead.
