In an effort to preserve and promote Ghanaian culture, the parliament plans to allow speakers of the indigenous tongues to speak on the House floor.

Members of Parliament (MPs) may speak in any of the local languages as long as interpretation and translation are available to guarantee that everyone in attendance understands them, as stated in Order 63 of the new Standing Orders.

The Eighth Parliament’s second meeting of its fourth session is when this endeavor is expected to get underway.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has affirmed that all essential preparations will be made to ensure a smooth implementation, including the supply of translators and other devices.

It is anticipated that the new policy would go into effect after the Easter holiday.
