The results of the December 7 parliamentary elections in 276 constituencies were stunning, especially for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which suffered heavy losses, including the loss of seats and several prominent ministers.

One of the most significant losses was in Adansi Asokwa, when Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani of the NDC defeated Trade and Industry Minister KT Hammond.

In a constituency that was formerly thought to be an NPP bastion, Mr. Dorani received 14,229 votes to defeat KT Hammond, who received 13,275 votes.

The NDC’s Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu defeated Interior Minister Henry Quartey in Ayawaso Central with 29,755 votes to Quartey’s 23,345 votes.

In a same vein, Rev. Kweku Addo defeated Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful by 31,866 votes to 26,575 votes in the Ablekuma West seat.

In Awutu Senya East, Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson was likewise defeated by Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor of the NDC, who received 50,886 votes to Koomson’s 46,638.

In Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC defeated Tourism Minister Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer with 14,558 votes to Mercer’s 11,084 votes.

Ophelia Mensah Hayford, the NPP MP for the Mfantseman Constituency, lost to Prince Ebenezer Arhin of the NDC, who received 35,832 votes to Madam Hayford’s 23,349 votes.

Sheikh Issah Salifu Taylor of the NDC defeated George Mireku Duker, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency.

In order to defeat Mr. Duker, the incumbent NPP MP, who received 27,404 votes, or 35.96% of the vote, Sheikh Taylor received 35,906 votes, or 47.11 percent.

Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, also lost his seat, and Bernard Okoe-Boye, the Minister of Health, was unable to unseat Benjamin Nartey Ayiku, the incumbent NDC MP, from the Ledzokuku Constituency seat. Additionally, Mr. Ambrose Dery lost his seat at Nandom.

Asunafo North: Deputy Sports Minister Evans Opoku Bobie was overthrown by NDC’s Haruna Mohammed (34,082 votes) (25,101 votes).

Ayawaso West Wuogon: John Dumelo of the NDC won a historic victory with 40,561 votes to Lydia Alhassan, the sanitation minister, who received 27,377 votes.

Okaikwei South: An NDC candidate defeated incumbent Dakoa Newman. After receiving 24,263 votes, or 42.60% of the total, she lost the seat to Ernest Adomako, who received 32,691 votes, or 57.40%.

Kwesimintsim: Philip Fiifi Buckman of the NDC defeated Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, the deputy minister of works and housing, with 13,317 votes (15,927 votes).

Mfantseman: NDC’s Ebenezer Prince Arhin (36,989 votes) ousted Environment Minister Ophelia Mensa (24,099 votes).

Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro: NDC’s Okle Felix Akwetey (37,473 votes) defeated Deputy Information Minister Sylvester Tetteh (27,888 votes).
