Security troops recruited into the NAIMOS have begun rigorous training under Ellembelle MP Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who also serves as the caretaker Minister for Environment and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
These men will receive training on how to deal with the threat in a professional manner and how to DETER, HALT, DISCOURAGE, and ARREST offenders.
While President Mahama has nothing against mining, he strongly disapproves of careless and unlawful mining, particularly in our water bodies and forest reserves.
In the struggle against Galamsey, these men will be stationed at over 44 main flashpoints, along with a few more.
But without sacrificing the goal, it is anticipated that they will work with conventional authorities.
Following President Mahama’s directive that no new licenses be granted, the consideration of repealing LI 2462, the establishment of Blue Water Guards and the rCOMSDEP (Responsible Community Mining & Skills Development Programme), the tracking and geofencing of new excavators, and other measures, NAIMOS is the Minister’s next major step in the fight against Galamsey.
This task team is supposed to put in endless effort to achieve the outcomes Ghanaians desire, which include a significant decrease in the turbidity of our waters and additional steps to lessen and eradicate the heavy metals that Galamsey has deposited there.
