Nine radio stations in Ghana have had their operations suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for breaking broadcasting regulations.
The ruling was made public on August 12, 2025, after President John Dramani Mahama’s 30-day grace period for failing stations to correct their violations had ended.
The amnesty was intended to enable operators to adhere to Ghana’s FM broadcasting regulations.
The NCA reports that during the amnesty period, six of the impacted stations failed, refused, or neglected to take corrective action: Donplus Multimedia Limited (105.9 FM, Ho); Dreams Ghana Media Limited (104.9 FM, New Abirem); Jam Multimedia Limited (101.3 FM, Kintampo); Jewel Group Limited (102.7 FM, Duayaw Nkwanta); Kpandai Star Community Radio (107.3 FM, Kpandai); and Unique Gateway Communication Limited (105.7 FM, Nkawkaw).
The three remaining stations, Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (95.9 FM, Accra), Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3 FM, Kumasi), and Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3 FM, Takoradi), were suspended for violating Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991), by operating without a Certificate of Compliance.
Unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and prohibited transmitter placements were among the infractions, according to the NCA.
The Authority declared that it will keep an eye on the broadcasting industry to make sure that the legal requirements and authorization requirements that control broadcasting in Ghana are being followed.
