The provision of dependable electricity to Ghanaians has been guaranteed as the Football World Cup approaches a critical stage for the nation.

During a working visit to the firm by a delegation from the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) led by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, on Monday, November 21, 2022, Ing. Ebenezer Essienyi, Chief Executive of the Ghana Grid Company GRIDCo, made this known.

The interaction with the Utility Regulator, which was welcomed by the Chief Executive and Management Staff of GRIDCo, is a chance for the two sides to connect on matters of common interest, such as: Maintaining open lines of communication between the Regulator and Utility provider; Tariff Issues; African electricity regulators’ visit to GRIDCo in 2023 will be formally announced.

To ensure that Ghanaians and the nation had a steady supply of electricity throughout the World Cup of football and that everyone could enjoy it, Ing. Essienyi GRIDCo put out alternative power supply options.

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Ackah, praised GRIDCo for being proactive in ensuring that there are no interruptions in the power supply throughout the World Cup. The head of PURC praised the company’s investments in order to guarantee Grid stability. He exhorted the management and staff of GRIDCo to work toward efficiency.

Later, the PURC Delegation went to GRIDCo’s Systems Control Centre to see how power is dispatched and maintained on a consistent basis. The PURC was led on the tour by Ing. Stephen Debrah, Manager Dispatch, and Ing. Linda Baah, Manager, Market Operations, who provided clarification and answers to questions raised.

Dr. Eric Obutey, Director of Research and Corporate Affairs, Ing. Rasheed Baisie, Head of Regulatory Audit, Robert Aziz, Deputy Head of Stakeholder Management, and Maame Esi Eshun, Head of the Executive Secretary’s Secretariat, were all members of the PURC delegation.
