In matchday seven of the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament, Chad will host Ghana’s Black Stars later today at the Marshal Idriss Deby Itno Olympic Stadium in N’Djamena.

The home team has had a poor season, losing six in a row and dropping all of their points in Group I of the qualifications. They have been outmatched in every way, scoring only one goal throughout the series and giving up 15 goals at the opposite end.

Although their most recent game in March ended in a close 1-0 loss to Comoros, which at least showed some defensive tenacity, their lackluster attack has now failed them in five of their six group games.

Friendly matches against Kenya in June also provided little relief, as their losing skid was prolonged by a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 loss.

Ahmat Abderamane is still one of the few players who can offer balance in midfield, but head coach Raoul Savoy has made an effort to keep his team competitive by using seasoned players like Marius Mouandilmadji and captain N’Douassel to lead the line.

Nevertheless, it is hard to imagine where the spark for a comeback might come from given that the squad gives up an average of 2.5 goals every qualifying match.

They have another opportunity to solidify their hold on the top spot in Group I when they play Ghana.

The Black Stars have won four straight games against Mali, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Madagascar, bouncing back from an early loss against Comoros with 15 points out of a potential 18.

They easily defeated Madagascar in their most recent qualifier, 3-0, in Al Hoceima. Jordan Ayew provided all three goals, with Thomas Partey scoring twice and Mohammed Kudus adding a third highlight.

With 15 goals in six games, Ghana has one of the strongest offenses in the qualifiers. They also have a pretty safe defense, giving up just five goals.

With Partey serving as midfield anchor, Kudus pulling strings, and Ayew in hot form, the Black Stars appear well-prepared to handle a match that, although not particularly dangerous on paper, is still essential to sustaining momentum going into the next round.

Otto Addo, the head coach, has put together a team that combines new talent with experience. In addition to opportunities for Derrick Arthur Kohn of Union Berlin and Caleb Yirenkyi, who is playing well for FC Nordsjaelland, there are recalls for Tariq Lamptey following a protracted hiatus, and Partey, Kudus, Ayew, and Inaki Williams make up the core of the team.

The team must work hard to earn the three points today, Thursday, but in recent months, they have appeared highly focused on winning the group and qualifying for another FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the USA, and Canada.

Chad’s difficulties are well known, and even though they might try to irritate Ghana in front of their own fans, the Black Stars are capable of winning every point in N’djamena.

With Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Inaki Williams, and Thomas Partey all healthy and playing well, Otto Addo’s team has settled into a groove in qualifying, and tonight looks to be another fantastic night for the Black Stars.

The only previous meeting between the two national teams took place on March 21, 2025. At the Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana easily defeated Chad 5-0 on that particular occasion.

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, the game is set to begin at Stade Olympique Marechal Idriss Deby Itno at 2:00 p.m. (1 p.m. in Accra).
