H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, and H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic, met at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as part of President Oligui Nguema’s three-day official visit to Ghana.
The talks, which began with a dét-à-tête between the two leaders, took place in a friendly, respectful, and African-centered environment that reflected Ghana and Gabon’s long-standing friendship.
The two heads of state reiterated their dedication to promoting sustainable economic growth and bolstering bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples.
Both Presidents Mahama and Oligui Nguema reviewed the two nations’ existing relations and expressed contentment with their long-standing, cordial diplomatic relationships.
They decided to step up their engagement by converting their solid political ties into tangible business alliances, with a focus on growing bilateral investment, trade, and private sector cooperation.
Additionally, the two presidents reaffirmed their dedication to using the African Continental Free commerce Area’s (AfCFTA) prospects to advance regional economic integration and intra-African commerce.
The two Presidents identified several strategic areas for increased cooperation, taking into account the relative strengths of both nations. These areas include trade and investment, mining and mineral value addition, oil and gas, energy, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry and climate action, maritime affairs, education, digital transformation, health, tourism, and defence and security.
In order to promote collaboration in these priority areas, they instructed the pertinent Ministries and institutions to create workable structures.
Two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed as a result of the bilateral negotiations:
• Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of the Gabonese Republic, and
• Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Diplomats’ Training between Ghana’s Foreign Service Institute and Gabon’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies.
The agreements are anticipated to improve diplomatic ties, expand institutional cooperation, and open up new avenues for collaboration in important areas, all of which will contribute to the long-lasting friendship between Ghana and Gabon.
President Oligui Nguema celebrated his visit by planting a tree in the Jubilee House grounds at the conclusion of the bilateral discussions.
