The Akwatia Constituency by-election is officially over, and ballots are now being counted at the various polling places.

The Electoral Commission (EC) verified that, following a day of voting at 119 polling places around the constituency, polls closed at 5 p.m.

Under the supervision of independent observers, security personnel, and party operatives, electoral officers are currently tallying the ballots.

Solomon Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernard Badidoo Bediako of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been engaged in a fiercely contested fight in the by-election.

The seat became vacant after previous MP Ernest Kumi passed away, and the NPP is attempting to keep it.

Despite some tense moments earlier in the day, turnout was characterized as good throughout the constituency.

As the counting goes on, security forces have remained conspicuous to guarantee a calm procedure.

The Electoral Commission is anticipated to compile and announce the results later tonight.
