The claims made by the Minority in Parliament that the security and intelligence services were actively hiring members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the security services are inaccurate, according to Interior Minister Henry Quartey.

Even if there were plans for recruiting, he added that the people who had applied for jobs in the security and intelligence services in the past but were not chosen and were still interested in being recruited were the target audience for the said recruitment.

According to him, the claims made by the Minority were only a “incitement” of the populace against the government, and the security and intelligence services had not even released their qualifying requirements for the aforementioned recruiting.

In response to the Minority’s news conference on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Parliament, where the Minority made the accusation, the Interior Minister asked the Minority to refrain from disseminating misleading information.

The answer was provided by Mr. Quartey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Accra’s Ayawaso Central, during a radio interview on Citi FM.

Instead, he asked the Minority to commend the government for using a novel approach that will allow eligible Ghanaians who had previously applied to the security services to reapply and achieve their objectives.

He claimed that knowing there was a limited amount of space, it would have been impolite of the government to continue to market and sell recruitment forms to individuals.

The Minority had claimed that the government had granted 20 places to NPP members of Parliament in order to get persons into the various security services and intelligence organizations. The group was led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the group’s leader, and James Agalga, a former deputy minister of interior.

“We are not hiring party prople to do party work,” he added, adding that the Ministry would make an announcement regarding the recruitment shortly after.

In response to the charges, Mr. Quartey declared that they were a “palpable lie” from the Minority and that the Ministry of Finance had granted the Ministry of Interior authorization for the recruitment in question, which was significantly greater than the number of slots multiplied by the number of MPs in Parliament.
