The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has declared that creating jobs will be his administration’s “first priority so that we can create jobs for the teeming youth of this country.”
And for that reason, I’m putting forth the 24-hour economic strategy. He clarified, “The policy would be connected to our agriculture’s modernization and aggressive food production.
The former president gave a speech on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the historic NDC campaign kickoff in Tamale.
“In every district, we are going to create farmer service centres.”
“We will bring the tractors, the planters, the plows, the seeds, the fertiliser – if you are a farmer you must register with the centre.” he said.
“And there’s going to be an accelerated export development programme of which, I the president, will be the chairman,”
“At the beginning of the farming season, we’ll give you all the inputs that you need so that you can produce your crops, and when you have sold your crops, you come back and pay for the inputs that you have been given,” he added.
According to Mr. Mahama, farmers will receive loans for agricultural inputs, with repayment occurring after harvest and after profit.
John Mahama stated that his “24-hour economy is going to be linked to an accelerated export development programme” in order to completely alter Ghana’s economy, in addition to reducing young unemployment and guaranteeing access and food security.
He clarified that the establishment of “agro-processing zones” will enable this program and produce “a new class of agribusiness people.”
Mr. Mahama emphasized his part in this plan.
