The results of the recently concluded Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which included 110 school candidates and two private candidates, have been completely canceled by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
For a number of suspected offenses, the results were canceled. Due to their admission of “prepared notes, text books, and printed materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates,” the candidates’ subject scores were canceled.
Additionally, WAEC canceled all 41 school candidates’ and one private candidate’s results for “possession of mobile phones in the examination hall,” and withheld the results of 180 school applicants and four private candidates for “various suspected offences.”
Also, the topic results of 312 school candidates for bringing foreign materials in the just-ended.
The Council also revoked the results of three private candidates who were found guilty of the same offense.
In the meantime, the Council is examining 22,270 candidates’ scripts in specific topics for alleged “cases of mass cheating.”
Depending on the results of the investigations, their results can be canceled or made public.
