On March 27, 2023, the Police in the Western Region, acting on information, detained three people in Japa, close to Wassa Akropong, for unlawful possession of firearms and acts of vigilantism.

Following an inquiry into a widely shared social media video in which one individual was seen firing at another and threatening violence, the three suspects—Godfred Appiah alias Nana Kobina Gyan, Isaac Amoako alias Nana Owusu, and Theophilus Yeboah alias Fire—were detained.

Godfred Appiah, the primary suspect who was shown discharging the firearm in the video, was first taken into custody as a result of the Police operation.

Theophilus Yeboah and Isaac Amoako were detained after additional police investigation, which identified them as the owner and supplier of the aforementioned firearm, respectively.

Four (4) pump action shotguns and 24 AAA-refilled cartridges were found following a search of the suspect Isaac Amoako’s home. He was unable to provide documentation for three of the guns, though.

The accused were presented to the Tarkwa Circuit Court on March 29, 2023, and were remanded into jail to appear in court again on April 6, 2023.

According to the police, attempts are currently being made to have more co-conspirators in the case apprehended and brought to justice.
